Texans Invited to Share Stories, Experiences of Their Faith

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Texans of all cultures and religious faiths are invited to submit personal stories of their individual practices for a new book, "Amazing Faith of Texas", to be published by one of the state's leading marketing experts.

Roy Spence, founder and president of Austin-based marketing agency GSD&M, and his colleagues will collect and publish the series of personal essays and portraits in the new book early next year.

"In our work across Texas over the past three decades, we have been blessed to witness and be immersed in the vivid color and character of our state's diverse cultures," Spence said. "And we have been struck often by the richness and variety of faiths embraced and practiced by those cultures.

"Now, at a time when we too often hear voices attempt to amplify our differences, it is fitting that we recognize and celebrate the remarkable faith of Texas, and we need the help of our fellow Texans in this endeavor."

Spence said the project is an attempt to build a common purpose around the variety of faiths. He said the venture reflects his concern for a perceived drift toward cultural wars over religion, currently fueled by fears of extremists around the world.

"The book we publish will be a celebration of what unites us, not what divides us, as Texans and as a family of faiths," Spence said. "It is my hope that in some small way, we can help bring our state and nation closer together in recognizing that while we may have differences in how we practice our faiths, we need to be aware that we're all in this together."

Spence said that a special writer-photographer team will be dedicated to gathering selected stories across the state in the weeks to come. He stressed that the book is a pro-bono, not-for-profit undertaking.
